Frascati, Annandale and Rocklands All Saw Action
In 2013, the Dolley Madison Garden Club ‘s Historic Garden Week tour featured three outstanding private historic properties that were, amazingly, all involved in the same Christmas Week battle along the Blue Ridge Turnpike in 1864. Frank Walker, noted local historian, compiled the Civil War histories of all the properties featured on the 2013 tour. Article features the original battlemap and dispatches from General R.E. Lee, Maj. Gen. Phillip Sheridan (Commander of the Union’s Valley Army) and Hon. James Seddon, Secretary of War, all obtained as part of Mr. Walker’s research and generously shared with the Club and the readers of the Orange Review. An exceptional man and astounding resource, Frank was generous with his time and knowledge and kind in his suggestions to this newly-minted author.
Proceeds from Historic Garden Week tours are used to restore historic gardens throughout Virginia.
